When we think of “toxicity,” we often associate it with harmful chemicals, pollutants, or unhealthy foods. But there’s another kind of toxicity that affects us just as detrimentally—energetic toxicity. This toxicity stems from the thoughts we think, the beliefs we hold, the attitudes we adopt, and the behaviors we allow in our lives. While physical detoxing is essential, clearing out the energy that fuels negativity, stress, and imbalance is equally necessary for overall health, well-being, vitality, and longevity.
What Is Energetic Toxicity?
Energetic toxicity refers to the negative energy we accumulate from limiting beliefs, fear-based thoughts, unresolved emotions, and toxic relationships or environments. Like physical toxins, this energetic “buildup” can weigh us down and impact our mental, emotional, and physical health. If left unaddressed, it can manifest in feelings of overwhelm, chronic stress, fatigue, anxiousness, or emotional imbalance. We can also “absorb” or “imprint” these disharmonious energies from the people we engage with and share our lives with. Empathic people are especially prone to becoming a “sponge” for other people’s unhealthy programs and patterns.
The Energy-Mind Connection
Our beliefs and thoughts are powerful. They shape how we see ourselves, how we interact with others, and even how our bodies respond to stress and healing. When we constantly allow negative, self-limiting thoughts to circulate in our minds—such as “I’m not good enough” or “I’ll never be able to change”—we are effectively creating an environment of internal toxicity, which can cause severe dysregulation within our nervous system. This impacts our mood and our ability to heal, grow, and thrive. As we come into “flu season,” it is essential to understand that high levels of stress negatively impact the immune system, and with so many of us creating a chronic state of internal stress with very little to no relief, it’s no wonder that we experience widespread viral infection in our populace.
Clearing Energetic Toxicity with Energy Healing

Mindfulness (or self-awareness) allows us to notice when we’re caught in self-sabotaging thoughts or holding onto old, limiting beliefs that no longer serve us. From this space of compassionate awareness, we can consciously choose healthier thoughts and behaviors that align with our true intentions and well-being, which will benefit us and everyone we interact with.
Assess, Address, and Resolve Toxic Energy
- Assess: Begin by noticing the recurring thoughts, beliefs, or behaviors that feel heavy, uncomfortable, or harmful. Are there negative patterns that consistently show up in your life? Perhaps a belief that you’re unworthy of love, or a habit of saying “yes” when you mean “no”? Are there people you are engaging with that consistently leaves you feeling drained, depleted, and down on yourself? Are you allowing yourself to be the victim of someone else’s toxic traits and enabling their unhealthy behavior as a result?
- Address: Once identified, it’s time to work on releasing these toxic energies and making the necessary life changes to align with wellness.
