Estrogen Dominance is the hormonal imbalance of the 21st century. Estrogen dominance is where estrogen levels rise to unhealthy levels and causes:

  • PMS
  • Endometriosis
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Headaches
  • Irritability
  • Infertility
  • Fibrocystic breasts
  • Decreased libido
  • Fatigue
  • Allergies
  • Breast cancer
  • Uterine cancer
  • Cervical dysplasia – a precursor to cervical cancer
  • Ovarian cancer

Estrogen dominance in men can cause the following issues:

  • Decreased erectile functions
  • Decreased morning erections
  • Low libido
  • Enlarged breasts
  • Increase in abdominal fat
  • Feeling restless
  • Decrease in muscle mass
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Increased risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Increased risk of fractures
  • Decreased bone strength
  • Increases risk in autoimmune diseases
  • Prostate cancer

Overcoming Estrogen Dominance

1. Reduce your BMI as estradiol is stored within body fat. Estradiol is one of the most harmful types of estrogen and causes breast cancer.

2. GUT – When the gut does not get the nutrition it needs, it interferes with hormones. Also, when the liver is not working correctly, it often does not filter out all the estrogen. I eat the following foods to help the good bacteria grow and improve my gut health and cleanse the liver. I have also listed the foods that help reduce estrogen. Eat 5-9 servings of fruits and veggies each day. Eat fiber and a variety of fibers. Eat these foods regularly:

  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Applesauce
  • Arugula
  • Avocado
  • Bananas
  • Beans – kidney, black, pinto beans, and peas – sprout
  • Berriesv
  • Bone broth
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Citrus fruit – reduces estrogen
  • Coconut products are antibacterial and kill harmful bacteria
  • Cruciferous vegetables *
  • Chicory root
  • Cilantro
  • Dandelion greens
  • Garlic
  • Goat milk butter
  • Kale
  • Legumes *
  • Lemon water
  • Matcha green tea powder
  • Nuts/seeds – flax and sesame*
  • Oats
  • Onions/shallots
  • Peas
  • Plantains
  • Raw sauerkraut and other fermented foods
  • Sweet potato
  • Swiss chard
  • Turnips
  • Taro
  • Winter squash

3. Take probiotics – crowd out yeast and bad bacteria
These foods naturally balance estrogen & progesterone levels and are helpful for liver functioning:

    • Chaste berry – increases libido, elevates progesterone levels, decreases headache, constipation, bloating, depression, lumpy breast
    • Passionflower – lowers estradiol, calming qualities

Raspberry leaf – ellagic acid – alters estrogen metabolism rates

  • Matcha – adapts to hormonal body needs and balances hormones
  • Brussel sprouts and broccoli – prevent new tumors from forming – sulforaphane
  • Milk thistle – helps remove cholesterol and estrogen from the liver
  • Artichoke – helps the production of bile which helps the liver
  • Dandelion leaf and root – stimulates bile to detox liver and removal of estrogen and progesterone
  • Cruciferous veggies – contain glycosylates – filter estrogen metabolites from the body. Also helps thyroid function. These veggies should be cooked.

4. Remove Xenoestrogens – phthalates and parabens
These reduce your progesterone:

  • Farm-raised fish
  • Nonorganic meat
  • Car exhaust
  • Plastics
  • Body care that contains sulfates and parabens
  • Nonorganic foods covered in herbicides, pesticides, fungicides
  • Canned foods with BPA, or bisphenol A
  • Adhesives
  • Solvents
  • Emulsifiers
  • PDB in industrial products

5. Deal with excess stress
Many of the disorders encountered today were unknown and unheard of a mere century ago. Technology, the multitude of new chemicals, and other agents of modernization cause a host of illnesses and health problems. Chief among these silent killers is the estrogen hormone present in excess amounts.

To alleviate PMS:

  • Seeds, zinc, and vitamin E
  • Boost estrogen with pumpkin and flax during days 1-14 of the menstrual cycle
  • Sunflower and sesame boosts progesterone days 15-28 is more important
